Simplification and repetition

 

Of course school is a part of life. But the saying that in school, children and young people learn for life, indicates that school is a realm in itself. Most teaching relies on simplification of complex contents, on visualization of abstract relations, on redundance, rehearsal and repetition.

 

Research on learning and memory starts around 1850, culminating after 1900 in:

·        pedagogical psychology, experimental pedagogics and the Würzburg School of Thinking in Europe;

·        animal psychology and behaviorism in America; and

·        psychoreflexology in Russia.
